Hunter S Thompson is amazing. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Hell's Angels blow my mind. This footage is really interesting and it also got me thinking about this statement made by Thompson in the February 1973 issue of Rolling Stone, "If I'd written the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 people—including me—would be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism." This makes me think, what is the point of aspirations and being an honest writer when inevitably you will get in trouble for speaking the truth? Is it better just to lie to make people happy and to keep yourself safe, or is it worth taking the risk?
